To commemorate this glorious day, the New York Distilling Company is holding a fundraiser party to benefit the Brooklyn Recovery Fund. A ticket to this event gives you the awesome oppertunity to take part in a distilling session, which is being opened to the public for the very first time. You’ll get the chance finish a run of rye and take home one bottle fresh out of the still, and then receive another bottle from the run once it’s aged. Doors open at 7 p.m. Find additional tickets and information here (code New York Distilling Company – Sandy Relief Benefit).

Hanukkah is fast approaching, which means it’s time to get ready for latkes. Flavor Tripping on the Miracle Berry, a Culinary Adventure with Underground Eats and Chivas Regal

Tonight, Underground Eats and Chivas Regal are collaborating to create a truly unique private event: “A Feast for the Senses.”

Explore flavors and textures with Chefs Rob McCue and Adam Banks, who will highlight their dishes with Chivas. Chefs Justin Warner (Winner of Next Food Network Star) and George McNeese (Do or Dine) will present a sampling of bites designed to create a sensory experience that plays off the miracle berry’s taste bud alteration.

Push the boundaries of culinary experience with the miracle berry. Native to West Afria, miracle berries resemble cranberries in looks, but contain a unique protein called miraculin – an apt name- that temporarily binds to the taste buds and rewires the sensory experience in your brain. The effect is an increased perception of sweetness in foods. Flavor tripping on the miracle berry is the closest thing we can think of to legal mind-altering drugs, but with a culinary twist.

Forget the Wine, Bourbon Proves it’s Worthy for Dinner Pairing

On Wednesday night bourbon-lovers united on Bedford Avenue in the hipster heart of Williamsburg for a gluttonous four-course bourbon-paired dinner.  The Bedford closed its doors to the public to host this special bourbon celebration as Chef Jason Giordano prepared four courses, each one highlighted by a small batch bourbon as its special ingredient.

Hosted by Jim Beam, this unique dinner matched four small batch bourbons with each course, offering pairings like the Knob Creek Horse’s Neck cocktail with a Knob Lacquered Duck Confit with Quince and Cranberries.  To make the evening even boozier than it already sounds, patrons were offered a neat sample of each bourbon in addition to a cocktail.  The dinner featured Jim Beam’s small batch bourbons including Basil Hayden’s, Knob Creek, Bookers, and Bakers and a Jim Beam brand ambassador was on-site offering a brief history and description of each one throughout the night.

After four rounds of shots, cocktails, and bourbon-infused dishes, everyone seemed to be in agreement that bourbon, the national drink of America, works quite well with a meal.  So next time the hostess hands you a wine list upon seating you at a restaurant, don’t feel guilty or any less classy when you return it and ask, “Hey, what do you have for whiskey?”
