911: Stuck in NYC on Memorial Day Weekend! What To Do?!

No house in the Hamptons to escape to this Memorial Day weekend?  Sick of cramped apartment BBQs? No friend with a car offering you a ride to “anywhere but here ?”

Relax, don’t worry.  There will be plenty to enjoy in your home, sweet home of NYC this coming holiday weekend.

Kick it off right with an awesome five-course Breaking Bad-themed dinner on Friday night.  New York Vintners Executive Chef Ryan Smith’s Alternative Dining Experience is bringing Breaking Bad to the table, with five courses paired with five wines by Sommelier Dylan York. Each dish is an homage to a pivotal Breaking Bad moment, from crack house pizza to Pinkman’s breakfast of huevos rancheros for Jane.  Buy tickets here.

On Saturday, join other hungry New Yorkers at the Williamsburg Waterfront or the Lower East Side and enjoy incredible dishes from some of NYC’s best food stands at Smorgasburg and the Hester Street Fair.

Sunday, if you are not still in a food coma, take part in Smorgasburg’s cousin, Smogasbrewery, at Brooklyn Brewery. This mini Smorgasburg will offer three or four food vendors and plenty of Brooklyn brews.

After a little beer buzz kicks in, head to the summer kick-off of the Mister Sunday party series in south Brooklyn. On May 27th from 3pm to 9pm, Mister Sunday will be spinning beats at Gowanus Grove.  The all-ages party, which will run every weekend this summer, offers delicious sandwiches from Mile End, Country Boys tacos, craft beer and sangria. Tickets here.

If you rather enjoy your food on an island (that’s not Manhattan),  grab your friends and a picnic blanket and head to the ultimate Memorial Day 5 Boro PicNYC on Governors Island.  Complete with unlimited food tastings until 2pm from over 20 vendors, the two-day (both Saturday and Sunday) extravaganza will also include live music, Sixpoint brews, and a chance to watch New York chefs compete in a grilled cheese cook-off competition. Buy tickets here.

And don’t forget, although it may not be Cape Cod or the Hamptons, Rockaway Beach is still a beach!  There is sand, there is sun, there are waves, and there is food.  Officially open for the season, Rockaway Beach Club is now offering food, drinks, and summer fun along the boardwalk.  Get ready, it’s Rockaway Taco season!
